Before you do your traceroute you
should understand that the traffic on the Internet
is what is referred to as "best effort"
meaning that there is no guarantee on the delay
or response you may receive from a website. This
is because there is no single ISP or carrier providing
the underlying infrastructure/network of the Internet.
Doing a traceroute
can help us identify possible problems on our
network but will provide you little resolution
if there is congestion on your ISP's network or
in the major carrier networks. Also keep in mind
that even if you are experiencing time-outs or
delays on your site that most likely your site
is still accessible by your audience since they
are using different ISP's and different routes
to access your site.
- Open a DOS
or command prompt window.
- Type: tracert
sitename.com
- You will be
returned a list of hops similar to the image
below.
- If the connection
times out please allow 3-5 minutes and refresh
your browser.
- If the site
is still not coming up and the last hop in the
traceroute ends with propagation.net
please contact us immediately.
If
the last hop in the traceroute is not on the propagation.net
network please contact your ISP for further support
